Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2005-10-24: EUK837, Boeing 747-300 enroute from Orlando (KSFB) to London (EGKK), at 0207Z, 100 NM SW of Halifax (CYHZ), the pilot advised of smoke in cockpit and declared an emergency and diverted to Haliax. RCC advised. Halifax tower advised and ERS standing by. Landed at 0232Z. TSB Case Closed.
2005-10-27: TSB Update: A05A0143: EUK837, an Air Atlanta Boeing 747-300, was en route from Orlando, Florida to London, England when, at approximately 100 NM SW of Halifax, NS the flight crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit. The crew then requested and received a clearance to divert to Halifax. Halifax tower was advised and Halifax ARFF was standing by. The aircraft landed safely at 1132 ADT without further incident. Maintenance inspection revealed that the main aircraft battery had overheated. The battery and charging unit were replaced, and the aircraft returned to service.
