Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT) (Runway excursion, Diversion)

Summary

2005-07-04: At 0200Z ACA860 Boeing 767-375 enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to St. John?s (CYYT) landed Runway 29 at St. John's. In attempting to turnaround on the runway the aircraft got too close to the runway edge. The aircraft notified the tower, they would require a towbar to realign the aircraft on the runway. ACA120, Airbus A320-200 enroute from Toronto (CYYZ) to St. John?s was the number two aircraft for runway 29 and had to break-off the approach and enter a hold. ACA120 did not have the weather limits to be able to land on another runway. At 0219Z ACA120 requested to divert to Gander CYQX) for fuel. ACA860 cleared Rwy 29 at 0238Z. ACA120 landed Gander at 0250Z. CYYT 0200Z 28007KTS 1/2SM FG VV001 15/15 3008 RMK FG8 SLP186. Nil TSB.
