Incident at SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ)


2005-06-27: CFMGC PA31 enroute St. Stephen (CCS3) to Saint John (CYSJ) reported one engine failure approximately 20W of Saint John (CYSJ) at 1805Z. ETA13 minutes. ERS called and on standby. Aircraft landed safely at 1820Z. TSB Case Closed
2005-06-28: TSB Updat #A05A0069: About 20 nm west of CYSJ, the pilot of a Piper PA31 (CFMGC) en route from St. Stephen (CCS3) to Saint John (CYSJ) heard a noise accompanied with a quick yaw. The pilot identified low power on the rough-running left engine (Lycoming TIO 540). After completing the checklist the engine was secured and the pilot reported an engine failure. The aircraft landed uneventfully at Saint John with the left engine inoperative at 1520 with ERS on standby. Maintenance found low compression on one of the cylinders. The cylinder was replaced and the aircraft returned to service.
