Incident at Vicinity of Goose Bay

Summary

2005-06-06: VIR45 A340-600 enroute London (EGLL) to New York (KJFK) began squawking 7500. Pilot indicated it to be an equipment issue but was unable to change the code. F18's intercepted aircraft and flight was diverted to Halifax. One other aircraft was given a 1 orbit hold to accommodate the non RVSM F18's. VIR45 landed Halifax at 1500Z. TSB Case Closed TSB Update: Air Canada maintenance in Halifax determined a failure within the Transponder Intermediate Switching Box. Fault corrected and aircraft departed from Halifax.
