Incident at Gander Domestic vicinity of BANCS (ATM - other)

Summary

2005-06-02: USA26 A-330-300 enroute Philadelphia (KPHL) to Paris (LFPG) at 37,000 ft. at approximately 0330Z was advised by ATC the aircraft was proceeding off course. The crew confirmed their instruments did not show a problem. Because of the deviation ATC advised they could not permit the flight to enter Oceanic airspace on the assigned clearance unless the Navigational problem could be corrected. Some problems were also experienced with initial attempts to radar vector the flight. Established Westbound the flight requested to return to KPHL. Clearance was issued at 38,000 ft. At 0405Z USA26 approximately 160NM SW of Gander (CYQX) requested to divert to Gander for a technical stop. A/C cleared as requested and descended to 29,000 ft. At 0411Z USA26 again requested to return to KPHL as the Technical services required were not available in Gander. Flight cleared as requested at 30,000 ft. Nil TSB
