Incident at DEER LAKE NL (CYDF)

Summary

2005-04-18: CGVKT C172 departed Rwy 25 at 1646Z. At 1652Z CGVKT reported 2NM South at 2000' inbound and experiencing a power loss. Aircraft was given the arrival advisory. AFF was advised to standby. CGVKT landed Rwy 25 without incident at 1654Z. AFF was advised at 1655Z. Nil TSB
2005-04-20: Maintnenance and Manufacturing update April 19 2005. An AME was dispatched to the aircraft, both magnetos were replaced and a compression check was carried out, the timing was set and a ground run was carried out the aircraft was then return to service. Given the nature of the incident and the fact this occurred away from base the DOM had the aircraft flown back to YQX to undergo a complete investigation of the cause of the incident. They found the R/H Magneto had failed. An SDR was submitted.
2005-05-31: TSB Update: A05A0048: The Exploit Valley Air Cessna 172, C-GVKT, had departed Runway 25 at Deer Lake for a cross country flight to Gander. Six minutes after take-off the pilot reported the engine had a power loss and they were returning to the airfield. Deer Lake FSS provided an arrival advisory and advised AFF to stand by. At 13:54 NDT the aircraft landed Runway 25 without incident. Maintenance replaced one of the magnetos, part number 4371-T serial number 94100272. An SDR has been submitted
