Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

Summary

2005-02-24: TSB Update: A05A0024: The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, C-FXCA, operating as ACA862 was on a flight from London to Toronto with stops at St-John's and Halifax. During the approach to rwy 16 in St. John's, moderate to severe turbulence was encountered at 1,400 feet asl with speed fluctuations of plus or minus 30 knots. The crew executed a missed approach and reported they were initially unable to climb with full throttle power and nose up 15 degrees due to the wind shear. After climb out the pilot elected to divert to Halifax. Upon arrival in Halifax, the FDR was pulled and sent to the companies maintenance facility in Montreal so that a determination could be made of any inspections that may be required due to the turbulence and wind shear encountered during the attempted landing in St. John's. The aircraft departed Halifax approximately 6 hours later on the continuation of the flight.
