Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT) (Aerodrome - visual aids)

Summary

2005-01-31: The Air Canada Airbus 319 (ACA630) was enroute CYYZ-CYYT. Aircraft landed on runway 16 and reported that the PAPI showed a pink color instead of red as expected. It was confirmed by the runway foreman that the lenses were ice covered and were then logged out of service until ice cleared. Adverse weather conditions at time. Aerodromes Update: St. John's airport checked the PAPI immediately after receiving the report and there was no ice build-up. They will be reviewing the incident with the electricians and will monitor the PAPI for re-occurrence.
