Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)
2003-08-28: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that there was an unsafe gear indication and the crew noticed that the hydraulic pressure was low. They then selected the hydraulic override, which manually runs the hydraulic pump and the unsafe indication was no longer indicated. Maintenance checked the hydraulic system and cleaned a suspect connection. They completed all hydraulic functions and tests, which were satisfactory and the a/c was released for service. The subsequent flight from Winnipeg to Gillam had no problems, however the flight from Gillam to Thompson had an unsafe gear indication on final. The crew initiated the same procedure and landed without incident. The a/c was removed from service and further inspection revealed a noisy hydraulic pump with a low pressure output. The pump was changed, the gear swung several times and the a/c was released to service.
2003-08-27: CAV 7514, a Saab 340, was inbound to Winnipeg from Thompson when the crew advised that they had an unsafe gear indication while on approach to Runway 25. They overshot the runway and proceded south to work on the problem. The flight returned and landed uneventfully. No emergency services were required.
