Accident at COLD LAKE REGIONAL AB (CEN5)

Summary

2003-08-22: RCMP reported that C-IFTX, an ultralight aircraft, made a forced landing on Highway #55 east of CFB Cold Lake and rolled into the ditch at 01:25Z (19:25 MST). The pilot received burns to his hands and legs and was taken to the Cold Lake hospital and later transported to the University Hospital in Edmonton. Damage to the aircraft is unknown. TSB to update.
2003-08-27: UPDATE TSB reported that the ultralight MiniMax 1600R, C-IFTX, was being flown from Meadow Lake SK to Cold Lake Regional Airport (CEN5). While en route, there was a fire on board the aircraft, and the pilot carried out a forced landing on Highway 55 at the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. During the landing, the aircraft rolled into a ditch. Ground personnel travelling with the aircraft by car extinguished the fire. The pilot sustained serious burn injuries.
