Incident at NORMAN WELLS NT (CYVQ)

Summary

2003-08-20: The pilot of C-GSFJ, a Helio H395, departed Norman Wells without contacting FSS on the Mandatory Frequency. The pilot of another aircraft (C-GJTE) overflying the lake heard something on the frequency but it was unreadable. FSS did a broadcast on the Mandatory Frequency to advise all aircraft of possible traffic. A third aircraft (C-GAAP) taxiing at Norman Wells advised FSS the unreadable aircraft was C-GSFJ and what the aircraft's intentions were. Operations safety was not compromised.
