Incident at NORWAY HOUSE MB (CYNE)
2003-08-25: UPDATE TSB reported that the Piper PA-31-350 aircraft, registration C-GMOB was on a VFR flight from Thompson to Winnipeg. While enroute, the left engine (Lycoming T10 540) lost all power. The crew secured the engine and elected to divert to Norway House where the aircraft landed safely. The operator advised that the engine sustained a crankshaft failure.
2003-08-20: The pilot of C-GMOB a PA-31 on a VFR flight from Thompson to Winnipeg with a stop in Pikwitonei, contacted Winnipeg FSS while 25 NM east of Norway House and advised he had experienced a left engine failure and was diverting to Norway House, ETA 21:02Z (2SOB & 550 lbs. fuel). C-GMOB landed safely at 21:07Z.
2003-08-22: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing advised that the company Quality Control Manager reported that the crankshaft had sheared between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder rows. When queried if the engine had experienced a prop strike at some time, the Quality Manager believed that the left prop had struck a computer case on the ramp at St. Andrews some time ago.
