Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

Summary

2003-08-15: During the climb out of Calgary, the Boeing 737-200 with 114 people on board, C-GXWJ, was manoeuvring between two thunderstorm cells at FL 220. Opposite direction traffic was utilizing the same corridor and had been cleared to descend to FL 230. The rate of descent of the opposing traffic prior to levelling off at FL 230 was sufficient to trigger the TCAS in C-GXWJ to issue a TA, followed by a RA to descend at 2,000 feet-per-minute. A 1,000 feet-per-minute descent was initiated by the crew, ATC were advised, and the descent continued until the ""No Conflict"" message was displayed. The aircraft was levelled at FL 210 and continued on course.
