Accident at TREHERNE MB (CKU2)

Summary

2003-08-19: TSB advised that the Ken Kane Aerial Spray Ltd., Ayres Thrush S-2R, C-GVTP, was being used to apply insecticide to spruce trees in a farmer's yard near Treherne, Manitoba. The pilot had completed his last spray pass above the yard and had extended his flight out over an adjacent bean field. The aircraft was observed to commence a left turn, as if the aircraft was going back to the staging airstrip. Part way into the turn, the aircraft descended and struck the ground with the left wing. Inspection of the short wreckage trail and ground impact marks, indicated that the aircraft struck the ground with little forward speed while the engine was producing more than idle power. The pilot incurred serious injuries and the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
