Incident at THOMPSON MB (CYTH)

Summary

2003-08-08: SARSAT formed a case south of Thompson and several high fliers also picked up the signal. Local VFR traffic flew over the location and found C-FNBJ, a Cessna 172 on floats on a lake 40 NM south of YTH. The pilot reported 'problems' and needed assistance. FSS co-ordinated assistance for this morning. The ELT was then turned off and a military Hercules that had been dispatched was cancelled prior to takeoff. It was later reported that the a/c had been parked near shore and high winds had caused water to wash over the back of the floats and worn seals allowed water to enter the floats. The pilot/owner did not have the equipment with him to pump water out and requested assistance. The a/c has since been flown back to base after another a/c brought equipment to assist.
