Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)
2003-08-06: UPDATE TSB reported that on departure from Runway 31 at Winnipeg, Air Canada 401, an Airbus A320, operating as ACA 410 struck a flock of birds. Three birds were ingested into the right engine (GE CFM 56.5) and one was ingested into the left engine, causing minor damage and a momentary compressor stall in the right engine. The flight was diverted back to Winnipeg where it landed without further incident. The aircraft was removed from service and sent for its next scheduled inspection.
2003-07-30: On departure on Runway 31 at Winnipeg, ACA 401, an A320, flew through a flock of 25-30 small birds. As a precautionary measure the crew returned to Winnipeg for landing and a visual inspection of the aircraft. The runway was inspected and no debris was found. The aircraft had evidence of bird impacts on both wings and both engines. Several light aircraft were delayed briefly to accommodate the arrival of ACA 1172.
