Incident at CORAL HARBOUR NU (CYZS) (ATM - other)
2003-07-16: Edmonton ACC reported that several communications facilities (PALs) in the north, including Coral Harbour and Trout Lake have failed. This will result in some re-routing of overseas aircraft. It is unknown how soon technicians can get up to the sites and repair the equipment.
2003-07-17: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that PALs and/or control lines failed at Coral Harbour, Island Lake and Trout Lake. Without PALs, direct pilot-controller communications is not possible, therefore radar separation standards cannot be used. Aircraft are not being re-routed, but separation between aircraft has been increased to procedural control (non-radar) separation standards. Technical staff from NAV CANADA and Northwest Tel, Manitoba Tel and Bell Canada are enroute to Coral Harbour, Island Lake and Trout Lake, respectively to effect repairs. They anticipate Trout Lake to be restored to service July 16, Coral Harbour and Island Lake by July 17.
