2003-07-03: UPDATE TSB reported that the crew of Zip Boeing 737-200, arriving from London, ON to Calgary, was issued holding instructions for ALOMA and entered the hold. The crew then advised of a medical emergency on board. When asked by the Controller if he was declaring an emergency, the response was that a passenger was on oxygen. The aircraft was given priority and several other aicraft were required to hold due to weather and Calgary Tower staffing shortages.
2003-06-27: WZP 6283, a B737-200 inbound to Calgary from London, was issued hoding instruction for ALOMA intersection and entered the hold at 0208Z. The crew then advised they had a medical emergency onboard. When asked by the Controller if he was declaring an emergency, the crew refused to state other than they had a passenger on oxygen. The aircraft was then given priority. Due to weather and a staffing shortage in Calgary Tower, several other aircraft were required to hold. Prior to this, company flight dispatch had called the Edmonton ACC Shift Manager questioning the delays into Calgary and requesting to know if this particular flight from London would be delayed. A traffic update in the Calgary area (25+ aircraft) was provided with anticipated delays. The dispatcher did not advise the Shift Manager of any problems on board WZP 6283 and did not indicate that the crew needed priority handling.
