Summary

2003-06-20: When landing on Runway 13 at Winnipeg after a flight from Thief River Falls, MN, N1692M, a Cessna 185 with 2 people on board, struck the port wing tip and then ground looped. The aircraft came to a stop on the runway and AFF responded. Once the situation was secured, the aircraft was removed from the runway into a grass area. Runway 13 was unavailable for approximately 10 minutes and two inbound arrivals were inconvenienced while the runway was cleared. The wind was from 180 degrees at 19 knots gusting to 26 knots at the time of the occurrence. It was reported that the wing sustained damage when it struck the ground and the initial assessment indicates that the wing spar might be bent. TSB has been in contact with the AMO.
2003-06-23: UPDATE TSB reported that the privately-registered Cessna A185E, N1692M, was landing on Runway 13 at Winnipeg, MB. The wind was from about 180 degrees at 19 knots gusting to 26 knots. Information provided indicated that the aircraft bounced and a strong gust lifted the right wing. The left wing struck the runway surface and the aircraft ground looped. There were no injuries; however, the aircraft was substantially damaged.
