Incident at HAY RIVER / MERLYN CARTER AIRPORT NT (CYHY) (Incursion - runway - pedestrian)

2003-06-18: An unauthorized person was riding a bike on Runway 13 at Hay River. The driver of ST 21 intercepted the person and the RCMP were notified. There was no air traffic at the time.
2003-07-04: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the person was visiting from Fort Providence and was riding a mountain bike exploring the sights when she came upon a causeway or dike which had been erected in hopes of controlling spring flood waters at Hay River. The dam leads onto the airport property, then onto Runway 13. Nav Canada technicians who were at the airport repairing ground based navigational equipment, halted her travels and called the APM, who then escorted the young lady off of the airport property. The airport does not have a fence around the perimeter. Aerodrome Safety suggested that the airport operator at Hay River apply for ACAP funding.
