Incident at RED DEER REGIONAL AB (CYQF)
2003-06-04: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the idler arm in the nose gear bay was found broken. An SDR has been submitted. The company is looking into the possibility that the oleo did not fully extend, causing the nose gear fork to hit the landing gear retraction mechanism, which in turn caused the arm to break.
2003-06-05: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the oleo was to blame for the idler arm breaking. It seems that when maintenance was recently performed on the oleo, the maintenance personnel involved did not get all the oil out of where it should not have been, and they did not fill the oleo with (air) nitrogen. Therefore, the oleo did not extend in the wheel well and caused the fork to hit the idler arm. They are in the process of doing an internal evaluation to see what went wrong with the system and correct the problem, however, one of the people involved is presently out in the field.
2003-05-29: After departure from Runway 16 at Red Deer, the pilot of the Cessna 310, C-GXXN, reported that he was unable to retract the nosegear. He elected to return and the a/c landed without incident. The cause of the gear problem is not known.
