Incident at GRANDE PRAIRIE AB (CYQU)

Summary

2003-05-27: UPDATE TSB reported that during the landing roll on Runway 25 at Grande Prairie (CYQU), the castering nosewheel on the private Lake 4-200 amphibian, N1072L, developed a severe shimmy and broke away. The aircraft settled onto the nosewheel forks and skidded to a stop on the runway. There were no injuries to the two occupants. Damage was confined to the nose-gear forks and oleo.
2003-05-26: N1072L, a Lake Buccaneer, landed on Runway 25 at Grande Prairie after a flight from Red Deer and when the a/c touched down, the castered nose wheel broke off. The a/c slid to a stop on its nose, on the runway with unspecified damage. The two occupants were not injured. The runway was closed for about an hour until the a/c could be removed. TSB has been in contact with the owner.
