Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE)

Summary

2003-05-26: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the R/H engine was running rough and the cylinder temperature was higher than normal. The number six (6) cylinder walls were found severely scored. All six cylinders had just been installed a short time ago. The problem cylinder (#6) is a chromed cylinder and the company is currently checking to see if the wrong rings were installed. The installer claims the package containing the rings was marked for use in a chrome cylinder. An SDR will be submitted.
2003-05-23: C-FRGH, a Piper Aztec, was 15 NM north of Saskatoon on a flight to Cree Lake when the pilot advised he was returning due to a rough engine. One other a/c was diverted to another runway at YXE to accommodate C-FRGH, which landed uneventfully. The cause of the engine problem is not known.
