Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)
2003-05-23: ACA 1185, an A320 with 70 people on board, was inbound to Calgary from Ottawa and Calgary Tower was advised that the aircraft had a 'pitch control problem' and required priority landing. CFR was called out. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 28 at 0210Z, exited onto Taxiway J and stopped in the vicinity of J2, where CFR personnel inspected the aircraft. CFR then inspected the runway and taxiway and in all cases nothing out of the ordinary was found. Normal operations continued at 0217Z when the aircraft was parked at the apron. TSB will be contacting the company.
2003-05-27: UPDATE TSB reported that the A320, C-FDST, operating as ACA 1185 was en route from Ottawa to Calgary when the crew was presented with elevator aileron computer (ELAC) 1 and 2 pitch fault messages and a jammed stabilizer message. The QRH procedure was carried out and control was reverted to direct law. AFF was requested and the aircraft landed at Calgary Intl on Runway 28 without further incident at 2010 MDT. The trimmable horizontal stabilizer (THS) actuator was changed and a satisfactory function check carried out. A similar incident occurred on the same aircraft at Edmonton (CYEG) on April 25, 2003 (A03W0081).
