Incident at YELLOWKNIFE NT (CYZF)

Summary

2003-05-23: MPE 463, an F28, was taxiing at Yellowknife for departure to Calgary and the crew had been cleared by the Ground Controller to 'taxi Taxiway Alpha'. The aircraft did not stop at the hold short line and continued across the line while one of the pilots was reading back the IFR clearance. The crew remained on Ground frequency reading back the clearance and got to the middle of the intersection of Runway 09/27 and 15/33 before the Ground Controller was able to tell them they did not have authorization to backtrack on Runway 33. The crew acknowledged the error and began to turn around on the runway, but the Tower Controller then authorized the crew to continue the backtrack. There was no conflicting traffic at the time.
