Incident at YORKTON MUNI SK (CYQV)
2003-05-15: UPDATE TSB reported that the Piper PA-25-235, registration C-GHVT, had just been released from a maintenance facility. After rotation on its first flight, the pilot noted a rapid decrease in oil pressure. He shut down the engine (Lycoming 0-540) and forced landed on a nearby road with no injury or damage to the aircraft. The aircraft was towed back to the airport and returned to maintenance. An inspection revealed a leak around the oil temperature sensing unit.
2003-05-14: The pilot of C-GHVT, a Piper PA-25 Pawnee crop sprayer aircraft, departed Yorkton at 2157Z on a local VFR flight. He declared a 'MAYDAY' 5 minutes later at 2203Z and advised that he had an engine failure and was landing in a field 5 miles east of Yorkton airport. FSS co-ordinated with the RCMP to locate the aircraft. The pilot phoned Edmonton FIC and advised that he was safe on the ground. TSB was advised.
