Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)

Summary

2003-05-09: UPDATE TSB reported that Air Wisconsin 543, a Bombardier CL600-2B19 Regional Jet, was departing Winnipeg on a scheduled flight to Denver, when the crew noted ""right IDG"" and then ""right generator offline"" warnings. The crew rejected the takeoff at 40 kts and taxied clear of the runway. The crew checked with maintenance, re-set the generator, and attempted another takeoff, with similar results. The aircraft returned to the gate and was examined by maintenance staff, who determined that the right IDG was almost out of oil. The oil was replenished, a runup was completed, and the flight departed without further incident. The operator has recently reduced inspection times for its integrated drive generators in response to a pattern of abnormally high oil consumption.
2003-05-06: AWI 543, a Canadair RJ, was departing on Runway 36 at Winnipeg for Denver when the crew rejected the takeoff due to a generator warning. The crew taxied the aircraft back to the threshold and attempted a second takeoff, which was also rejected for the same reason. They taxied back to the apron. No other aircraft were affected. TSB will contact the company.
