Accident at NORTH BATTLEFORD (CAMERON McINTOSH) SK (CYQW)

Summary

2003-05-01: The pilot of C-IENM, an Alberta Air Golden Hawk ultralight, reported taxiing for departure at North Battleford and was provided with a remote airport advisory. When later queried about his position, the pilot responded that he had had an incident and that the aircraft had come to rest on the right hand side of Runway 30. It was later reported that the pilot was taking off in gusty wind conditions of 15 - 20 knots with a crosswind component. During the takeoff roll, he apparently lost control and exited the runway surface. The a/c sustained damage to the landing gear, propeller and wings. The pilot was not injured. TSB has been informed.
2003-05-02: UPDATE TSB reported that the Alberta Air R.V. ultra-light, C-IENM, was on takeoff from Runway 12 at North Battleford, SK. During the takeoff run, the aircraft suddenly veered to the right and the pilot could not correct the turn and aborted. The aircraft stopped in a short distance and was substantially damaged. The main landing gear had become loose and moved along the fuselage causing the sudden veer. The landing gear had not been attached to the frame of the aircraft but was inserted through the fiberglass covering of the fuselage which had worn.
