Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)
2003-04-25: UPDATE TSB reported that the Piper Navajo was on the takeoff run at Winnipeg when the pilot observed a power loss on the left engine (Lycoming TIO-540), rejected the takeoff, and shut down the engine. Company maintenance determined that the turbocharger seal had failed, causing the power loss and allowing oil to leak into the exhaust system. The turbocharger was replaced and the aircraft has been returned to service. The company intends to file an SDR with TC.
2003-04-24: C-GMOB, a PA-31 Navajo, was taking off on Runway 13 at Winnipeg when the pilot rejected the takeoff due to a smoking left engine. He exited the runway on Taxiway Charlie and the a/c was attended by AFF. The cause of the engine problem is not known.
