Incident at FORT MCMURRAY AB (CYMM) (Incursion - runway - pedestrian)

Summary

2003-04-17: Aerodrome Safety advised that the Airport Authority at Fort McMurray tracked the intruders down. They were three 12-year-old boys taking a short cut home. The boys, who were on bikes, were able to travel across a portion of the airport and climb a four foot barbed wire fence. The boys were escorted home after they received a briefing about the inherent dangers at airports. The Airport Authority will apply for ACAP funds to improve the fencing in and around the airport property.
2003-04-16: Three unauthorized people were observed on the airside service road at Fort McMurray airport. They proceeded onto the runway eastbound and exited the runway on the east side. They climbed the security fence and proceeded eastbound into the trees. Airport security was called by the FSS. There was no operational impact.
