Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC) (Overshoot/missed approach, Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

Summary

2003-04-10: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that crack sealant, once applied becomes rubber-like and is forced up to the top of runway surfaces. This event occurs in the spring during run-off or when heavy rains are in the area. The sealant was removed and normal operations were resumed. Re-sealing well be conducted in July or August.
2003-04-09: AAL 2081, an MD-80, and CPB 301, a BAe 31, had to execute missed approaches for Runway 16 at Calgary because of reported FOD on the runway. Runway 16 was closed for 12 minutes while airport personnel inspected it and they found crack sealant. Other runways were available and only minor inconvenience was experienced by aircraft during this time.
