Incident at LETHBRIDGE AB (CYQL) (ATM - other)
2003-03-19: On a local training flight at Lethbridge, the pilot of a PA-23, C-FVIY, stated he was hearing the broadcast of a local FM radio station (107.7) very clearly on the Mandatory Frequency (121.0). The pilot stated he heard music and chatter very clearly as far out from the airport as 10 NM and between the altitudes of 4,500 and 5,500 feet. He also stated it interfered with communication on the mandatory frequency.
2003-03-24: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that Industry Canada, EMI advises that they have been previously notified of this interference. They have conducted checks in the past using GBDPs (Ground-Based Detection Platforms (vans)) and were unable to identify any interference on the MF. They are now considering checks using ABDPs (Air-Borne Detection Platforms (ABDPs) (aircraft)).
