2003-03-17: AMM 082, a British-registered B757, was en route from San Francisco to Manchester, UK, and the crew gave a position report near Thompson with 59N/90W as the next co-ordinate. The aircraft's original flight plan showed co-ordinates of 60N/90W; 63N/80W; 65N/70W; 66N/60W; 66N/50W; 66N/40W; 65N/30W; to destination BIKF.
The aircraft route was questioned by ATC and the crew responded with the following route; 59N/90W; 61N/80W; 62N/70W; 63N/60W; 64N/50W; 64N/40W; 63N/30W, new destination of EGCC
(Manchester, England). When investigated, the company re-filed a revised flight plan 20 minutes after the aircraft was airborne from KSFO.
None of the USA or Canadian Centers received the revision. The flight was originally scheduled to stop in Iceland for fuel, however company flight dispatch determined that favorable winds allowed the aircraft to fly non-stop to Manchester. The flight plan was changed to reflect this.
