Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (ATM - NAVAIDS/radar)

Summary

2003-03-13: At 1619Z, Edmonton ACC experienced total radar failure all specialties due to a dual RDPS LAN failure. Flight plan data from NFDPS was rejected by RDPS causing NFDPS to fail. The RDPS system required a cold start and was restored at 1629Z without flight plan data. NFDPS was re-started using a hot start and flight plan data was available at 1639Z. The NARDS backup system functioned normally. Additional workload for all center staff. Approximately 3 departures at YEG and 6 departures at YYC were delayed for up to 8 minutes. No delays at other specialties. Investigation is continuing into the cause of the problem.
2003-03-26: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that Nav Canada plans no further action concerning this occurrence.
