Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)
2003-03-03: ACA 159, an A320 with 123 people on board, was enroute to Edmonton (YEG) from Toronto when the crew declared an emegency because of a system problem affecting manoeuverability when the gear was lowered. ERS was called and responded. ACA 159 landed on Runway 30 at YEG without incident at 0209Z. The aircraft remained on the runway until 0217Z due to hot brakes. TSB will be contacting the company.
2003-03-06: UPDATE TSB reported that ACA 159, an Airbus A320, was en route to Edmonton at FL 360 when the No. 2 IRU (Inertial Reference Unit) and the No. 2 ADR (Air Data Reference) failed simultaneously. The ECAM actions were carried out and an emergency was declared. The flight proceeded to Edmonton and landed without further incident, with AFF standing by. Maintenance re-set the IRU and the ADR, and MEL 34-10-01 was applied for the return flight to Toronto. Both the ADR and the IRU were re-set again in Toronto, and both units were ground tested serviceable by maintenance. The MEL was removed and the aircraft was returned to service.
