Incident at IQALUIT NU (CYFB)

2003-03-12: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that it appeared that the beta backup system activated improperly during flight, blocking oil from getting to the propeller via the prop governor. Following the return of the aircraft to Iqaluit with the RH engine feathered, maintenance ran the aircraft repeatedly and could not duplicate the snag. They completed a number of beta back up system tests per the AFM and could not duplicate the failure. The beta backup system micro switch was suspected and inspected. Nothing could be found unserviceable with the switch, rigging adjustments or the associated mechanisms. The area was cleaned and lubricated as required and ground run again resulting in a confirmation of serviceability. The aircraft was released to service and continues to operate fault-free.
2003-02-28: C-FASG, a DHC-6 Twin Otter was inbound to Iqaluit from Kimmirut when the crew reported an engine problem 17 NM southwest of Iqaluit. They did not declare an emergency. The aircraft landed at 2003Z without incident and there was no impact on operations.
