Incident at YELLOWKNIFE NT (CYZF) (ATM - NAVAIDS/radar)
2003-02-12: The Yellowknife RADAR, landlines and hotlines failed from 23:21Z to 23:30Z. TELCO advised that the problem was due to a Central Office problem. There was minimal operational impact.
2003-02-17: ANS & Airspace advised that during a radar failure the controllers revert to procedural control. This type of failure is more an efficiency problem than a safety problem. Traffic can be slowed, and at the larger sites flow control may have to be put into effect. Given the availability of aids such as DME and now RNAV equipment on board aircraft, the controllers are able to maintain a ""site"" picture of traffic and react accordingly.
