Incident at REGINA INTL SK (CYQR)
2003-01-31: An activated ELT signal was heard on 121.5 and 243.0 at Regina. After arriving on a flight from Edmonton, the pilot of TGO 984, a Beech King Air, reported that the ground crew may have accidently turned the ELT on before the flight left Edmonton. The pilot indicated that a decal on the ELT has instructions contrary to the operation of the ELT.
2003-02-03: UPDATE RCC TRENTON REPORTED THAT THEY WERE ADVISED BY EDMONTON ACC AND WINNIPEG ACC OF RECEIVING HIGH FLYER REPORTS OF AN ACTIVE ELT FROM EDMONTON, AB (C-FGXU'S DEPARTURE POINT) TO REGINA, SK (C-FGXU'S DESTINATION). LOW LEVEL AIRCRAFT AND GROUND STATIONS ALONG C-FGXU'S ROUTE ALSO REPORTED HEARING ELT ACTIVITY. REPORTS WERE CONTINUOUSLY RECEIVED UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT REACHED DESTINATION OF REGINA. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE ELT HAD BEEN RECENTLY SERVICED. RCC CONDUCTED 3.5 HRS OF INTENSE INVESTIGATION BY JRCC/ACC'S/FSS'S AND INCLUDED THE UNNECESSARY LAUNCH OF A SAR CC-130 HERCULES AIRCRAFT, WHICH SEARCHED FOR 3+ HOURS.
