Accident at EMPRESS AB (CYEA)


2003-01-30: The pilot of C-GZVG, an RAF 2000 gyroplane, was conducting a test flight at the Empress airport and during an overshoot of the runway, witnesses heard a loud bang, followed by seeing the gyroplane come apart in the air. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. TSB Edmonton sent 2 investigators the site.
2003-02-03: UPDATE TSB reported that the pilot of the RAF 2000 GTX-SE-F1 gyroplane, registration C-GZVG, was conducting a test flight at the Empress, Alberta airport. During a flypast and subsequent pull-up over the runway, a 'bang' was heard followed by the gyroplane entering a vertical descent. The sole occupant on board was fatally injured. Two TSB investigators were dispatched to the site.
