Incident at GRANDE PRAIRIE AB (CYQU) (Aerodrome - visual aids, Aerodrome - power failure)


2003-02-05: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the problem was determined to be a cable break in an edge light pulpit on Runway 11/29. The cable was repaired and the system was declared operational at approximately 0230 am the next morning. The airport response is appropriate. The investigating officer's review of the previous CADORS (10 years) does not indicate any trends concerning the occurrence No further action required.
2003-01-27: Runway 11/29 edge lighting at Grande Prairie airport failed while WJA 95, a B737, was on approach after a flight from Edmonton. The crew of WJA 95 conducted a missed approach and did a hold until 0414Z while the airport operator attempted to correct the problem. The airport operator was unable to make the necessary repairs prior to WJA 95 returning to Edmonton. The cause of the lighting failure is not known.
