Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)
2003-01-27: WJA 45, a B737, had an indication of fire in a wheel well at about 2 miles final for Runway 12 at Edmonton. ERS responded and checked the aircraft in Taxiway A2. No fire was present and the flight proceeded to the main ramp.
2003-01-28: UPDATE TSB reported that WJA 45, a Boeing 737-200 was on approach to Edmonton International in IMC conditions. One minute after the landing gear was extended, and approximately two miles from touchdown, the wheel well fire warning light and bell activated. The flight crew completed the emergency checklist, landed the aircraft without further incident, and shut the engines down on the first available taxiway. AFF crews carried out an external inspection of the wheel well and found no evidence of smoke or fire. Maintenance personnel subsequently determined that a fire detection system connector had shorted. They replaced the connector and returned the aircraft to service.
