Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)

Summary

2003-01-21: After landing at Edmonton and just prior to turning off the runway, the left engine (CFM 56-5B) failed on an Air Canada A320. There was no indication of why. It was snowing at the time and the runway had just been swept. The engine was at idle and in reverse when the engine failed. Maintenance found snow/slush ingestion at the #1 engine compressor inlet. A borescope inspection of the low pressure compressor inlet found no faults. A maximum power check was completed with no faults found.
