2003-03-05: UPDATE TSB reported that the Boeing 777-200 operated by Aeroflot Airlines (AFL 324) was over-flying Canada en route from Seattle to Moscow at FL 350. When north of Grande Prairie, AB, the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and co-ordinated with the Vancouver ACC for a return to Seattle. Fuel was dumped in Canadian airspace. The flight was subsequently handed over to the Seattle ACC and landed in Seattle without further incident. Information gathered through the NTSB indicated that the aircraft had a malfunctioning chiller motor which was rubbing and caused its circuit breaker to trip. The crew had reset the tripped circuit breaker several times. No other sign of fire was detected. British Airways maintenance in Seattle inspected the aircraft and isloated the chiller motor. The flight was dispatched in accordance with the MEL.
