Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

Summary

2003-01-20: At 0350Z, WJA 253 taxied to position on Runway 02 at Edmonton and then the crew advised Tower of a nose wheel steering problem. Assistance was required for the a/c to return to the Terminal, so the runway was closed while the aircraft was towed to the apron. There was a minor impact to airport operations as several departures were re-routed to other runways. The cause of the gear problem is not known.
2003-02-04: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the nose wheel steering would not function due to a failure of the nose wheel steering metering valve. Maintenance replaced the valve and the aircraft was returned to service. No further difficulties were reported and an SDR will be filed.
