Incident at FORT SMITH NT (CYSM) (Aerodrome - other)

Summary

2003-01-17: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the Airport Manager acknowledged that the ambulance proceded down Taxiway 'C' without contacting CARS. The driver's D/A AVOP was revoked immediately. Through the driver's admission, he is aware of airside responsibilities and is scheduled for retraining and retesting next month. The CARS and Airport Manager's actions are consistent with good airside operating practices. The nature of this and similar incidents prove the necessity of scheduled annual AVOP retraining. No further action is required.
2003-01-16: The Fort Smith Ambulance entered the airport ramp area from goundside and proceeded down Taxiway 'C' without authorization. The CARS Observer/Communicator turned on the apron lights and the ambulance stopped briefly, then proceeded to Big River Air Hangar. Ten minutes later the ambulance returned to the ramp via Taxiway 'C'. No contact was made with CARS. The APM was advised.
