Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)
2003-01-08: The Piper PA-46 Malibu, C-GTCS, was inbound to Calgary on a flight from the U.S. when it experienced a loss of engine power while in descent from FL 150 to FL 120. The pilot was familiar with the area and requested a vector to High River approximately 23 miles away. The aircraft landed safely at High River at 0349Z. TSB to update.
2003-01-13: UPDATE TSB reported that the Piper PA-46-310P Malibu was en route from Scottsdale, AZ to Calgary International when the pilot reported an engine power loss (Teledyne Continental TSIO-550-C) to ATC. The incident occurred during the descent from 15,000 feet ASL to 12,000 feet ASL, approximately 50 NM SE of Calgary. The pilot requested vectors to the High River, AB airport. At 3,000 feet AGL, the engine re-started and the pilot elected to continue the approach to High River for an uneventful landing. Subsequent inspection of the aircraft revealed the exhaust manifold on the turbo-charged engine had fractured and escaping exhaust gas had burned engine instrumentation wiring.
