Incident at EDMONTON CITY CENTRE / BLATCHFORD AB (CYXD)
2003-01-07: While in the west practice area (CYA 209T) at Edmonton, the pilot of C-GIXD, a Beech Duchess, shut down one engine for some single engine practice. At 1826Z the pilot was unsuccessful in re-starting the engine and returned to Edmonton City Center Airport on one engine. They landed uneventfully at 1837Z. No emergency was declared and there was no impact to other users.
2003-03-28: UPDATE General Aviation reported that the CFI at the Edmonton Flying Club said that there was an internal investigation into the incident. The Director of Maintenance advised that no mechanical problems were discovered on the aircraft involved. The CFI conducted a monitoring flight with the instructor involved, during which one engine was intentionally failed and its propeller feathered. The CFI reports that the instructor's piloting technique was consistent with aircraft operating procedures and that the unfeathering attempt was conducted successfully.
