Incident at YELLOWKNIFE NT (CYZF)

Summary

2003-01-07: A Lockheed C-130, C-GHPW, operating as FAB 701, was 85 NM north of Yellowknife, NT when the crew observed erratic engine pressure fluctuations in the number 4 engine (Allison 501-D22A). A visual check confirmed an oil leak in the number 4 engine. A precautionary engine shut down was performed and the aircraft returned to Yellowknife. No emergency response was required. Maintenance reports that the venting of oil was due to a pressure imbalance. The duplex oil pump has been replaced and the aircraft returned to service.
