Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (Dangerous goods/hazardous materials)


2003-01-06: NWA 909, a Boeing 747 Freighter, was at FL 340 enroute to Anchorage when the crew advised ATC that there was a cargo problem and requested to divert to Edmonton. NWA 909 initiated a fuel dump from 1219Z to 1223Z while enroute to Edmonton. The flight landed at Edmonton without incident at 1242Z. TSB to update.
2003-01-09: TSB reported that the Boeing 747-200 was en route from Chicago O'Hare, IL to Anchorage, Alaska at FL 340. Abeam Whitecourt, AB the crew was advised by dispatch via the ACARS system of a 5.1 Dangerous Good being loaded in an inaccessible area. The crew requested a diversion to Edmonton International. En route to Edmonton, the crew initiated a fuel dump for 4 minutes. Upon landing the dangerous goods cargo was moved to an accessible area and the flight continued after refuelling.
