Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)
2003-01-03: The crew of MPE 444, a Boeing 737 which had departed Edmonton for Yellowknife, advised the Terminal Controller about 40 NM north of YEG that they were having problems with the a/c de-icing equipment and needed to return. No emergency equipment was required and the aircraft landed safely at 1558Z. There was no impact on airport operations.
2003-01-15: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the #2 engine anti-ice valve failed to open after takeoff and the crew elected to return to YEG for repairs. The faulty valve was replaced and ground checked serviceable. The aircraft departed YEG and once again the valve failed due to the circuit breaker tripping. The flight returned to YEG for repairs. The valve was replaced and the aircraft returned to service. A stripdown report of the valve that failed on install has been requested from Air Canada Maintenance.
